Install apps in your domain (admin only)

In this tutorial, we will discuss how admins can install Mergo using configurations that suit their needs.

In this article

An administrator (admin) is a person who manages Google services or devices for a company, school, or group. We'll guide you in choosing the appropriate installation options and setting it up. 

Note: Mergo users receive a welcome (Get started) email once after installing the app or when using the app for the first time. If, as an admin, you install Mergo for domain users, they will receive a welcome email only if they use the Mergo app. This welcome email is sent to help them get started with Mergo.

A. Install Mergo for all users in your domain

Choose this option if you think Mergo can be useful to everyone in your organization.

Open the Google Workspace Marketplace > search for Mergo > click the Mergo card.

Click Domain Install

Note: If you only see an Install button, then you are not logged in using an admin account or you could be logged in using several Google accounts. To remedy this, log in using an admin account.

A modal window informs that you're about to do a Domain-wide install. Click CONTINUE

Review our data access requirements (scroll to view the full list), terms of service, and privacy policy. 

(1) Choose the applicable Organizational Unit (we chose the entire domain in this tutorial). 
(2) Check the agreement box.
(3) Click ALLOW.

Mergo is now installed! Click DONE

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for an app to be available to all users.
(This is a conservative timeframe, but it's usually way faster - even nearly instant.)



B. Install Mergo for users in a specific Organizational Unit (OU)

Choose this option if you want to deploy Mergo only to specific users in an Organizational Unit (e.g., your HR department).

Follow all the steps detailed in section A - Install Mergo for all users in your domain.

But in step 4, choose a specific OU from the dropdown (we chose Ops in this tutorial).

Notes:

  • Turning on Mergo access for a group of users rather than an entire OU is not yet supported.
  • If you want to activate Mergo for several OUs, extra steps are needed.
  • Users in other OUs will not be able to install Mergo unless you add it to your allowlist.


C. Install Mergo for users in several Organizational Units

Choose this option if you want to deploy Mergo to several users (e.g., your HR + IT departments).

Follow the instructions detailed in sections A - Install Mergo for all users in your domain and B - Install Mergo for users in a specific Organizational Unit (OU), to initially install the app for a particular OU.

Once Mergo has been installed for a specific OU, you can make it available to other OUs. 
From the Admin console Home page, click Apps  (1) > Google Workspace Marketplace apps (2).

Click Mergo in the list of apps installed.

Click the Distribution card.

We're going to deploy Mergo to the IT department / OU. 
To do this: 

a) Click IT (or your appropriate OU).
b) Under Service status, click ON.
c) Click the OVERRIDE button to save the changes.
Repeat these steps for any additional OU needing access to Mergo.

D. Allow users to install Mergo by themselves (while controlling which apps they can install)

Choose this option if you want to deploy apps initially intended to specific users (OU), while allowing other users to install individually - only as needed (avoiding unnecessary domain-wide installation).

Enable the Allowlist feature

From the Admin console Home page, click Apps.

On the Google Workspace Marketplace apps card, click Manage.

Under Manage access to apps, choose Allow installation and usage of specific applications from Google Workspace Marketplace > SAVE.


Add apps to the Allowlist

From the Admin console Home page, click Apps  (1) > Google Workspace Marketplace apps (2).

Click Google Workspace Marketplace allowlist.

At the top, click Add app to allowlist.

Search for Mergo (1). 
Then hover on Mergo >  click ADD TO ALLOWLIST (2).

Mergo is now listed in your Allowlist and individual users can install it.
