How to Restore Tracking in Mergo When the Spreadsheet is Altered

Mergo is a powerful mail merge add-on for Google Workspace, allowing you to manage your recipient list and track email interactions directly within a Google Spreadsheet. Each sheet tab represents an email campaign, and the tracking is handled through a "Merge status" column that updates with recipient actions such as opens, clicks, responses, and unsubscribes.

However, because spreadsheets are highly flexible and can be reorganized or updated in numerous ways by end users, it is possible for the tracking feature to be inadvertently disabled. Common issues include:

  • The "Merge status" column being deleted or renamed.
  • The header row not being the first row anymore due to sorting.
  • Incorrect filtering.

In such cases, the best solution is to restore the spreadsheet to an earlier version, right after the email campaign was sent and before any manual changes were made.

Steps to Restore a Google Spreadsheet to an Earlier Version

  1. Open the Google Spreadsheet: Navigate to the Google Spreadsheet associated with your email campaign.

    Access Version History:

    • Click on File in the top menu.
    • Select Version history .
    • Click on See version history .

      Choose an Earlier Version:

    • In the right panel, you will see a list of previous versions of your spreadsheet, organized by date and time.
    • Browse through these versions to find one that corresponds to the period right after your email campaign was sent and before any manual changes were made.

      Restore the Selected Version:

    • Click on the version you wish to restore.
    • At the top of the screen, click on Restore this version .
    • Confirm your action by clicking Restore .

Restoring to an earlier version will revert the spreadsheet to its previous state, including the original "Merge status" column and correct header row placement, ensuring that Mergo’s tracking feature is re-enabled.
