Why are my recipients getting tagged as Unsubscribed?

In this article, we'll explain why your recipients are getting tagged as Unsubscribed (or Already Unsubscribed) even though they didn't click your unsubscribe link.


Under normal circumstances, Mergo's Unsubscribe process will only be activated when a recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in your email. But the only way for your recipients to be tagged as unsubscribed without human intervention (ie: recipients didn't click the unsubscribe link) would be if an automated process in their mailbox / anti-spam clicked (triggered) the unsubscribe link.

This can happen and when it does, you will see a blank Blocked contacts. Several anti-spam systems are automatically opening all links in emails to check if they are safe or not. And this inadvertently triggers the unsubscribe process.

When this happens to you, please email us so we can untag/remove your unsubscribed recipients. Specify the list of email address to untag in your email.
